Linear Gate Motor Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

A Linear gate motor replacement in Las Vegas typically costs between $650 and $1,400 installed, depending on which Linear model you have and whether we’re swapping the motor head only or the full operator assembly. We stock Linear OEM and tested aftermarket motors on our trucks, so most residential jobs are done the same day we show up. You usually find out the motor has failed when the gate starts groaning, moves at half speed, or simply stops responding to the remote or keypad – sometimes right after a wind storm, sometimes for no obvious reason at all.

Here’s what we’ve learned from years of replacing Linear gate motors across Las Vegas: the motor rarely fails silently. It gives you a few weeks of warning. We’ll walk you through exactly what to look for, what a fair replacement costs, and how to avoid paying for parts you don’t actually need.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

We replace motors across the Linear residential line – the most common in Las Vegas are the LDO linear swing operators (LDO50, LDO75), the APeX series, and older LS050/LS075 models. If your operator is a Linear PRO series (PRD, PRX, or more recent PRO7-series), we handle those too. Linear has made motors in both 12V DC and 24V DC configurations depending on the control board generation, so the motor has to match your board – not just the arm style.

The fastest way to identify your unit: open the operator cover and read the model label on the side of the main body. It’ll say LDO, LS, APeX, or PRO followed by a number. Take a photo of it before you call. That single photo tells us more than a ten-minute description of the symptoms. If the label is faded or scratched off – common on older units that have faced ten Las Vegas summers – we can still match the motor by the arm style, the board type, and the physical measurements once we’re on site.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Linear OEM motors are well-built but expensive, and for many LDO and APeX units a quality aftermarket motor from a manufacturer we’ve tested gives you the same performance at about 40 percent less. We’ll give you both prices and let you choose. We’re an independent service provider – not affiliated with Linear – so our only interest is putting in the part that makes sense for your gate, not the one that protects a brand markup.

Signs Your Linear Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

  • Gate moves slower than it used to. The motor brushes are wearing, or the capacitor is losing its ability to hold a charge. On LDO swing arms especially, you’ll notice the gate hesitating halfway through the arc.
  • Humming sound but no movement. The motor is receiving power but can’t turn the drive – usually a capacitor failure on AC units or a stripped gear. If you hear this, stop hitting the remote. Continuing to power a stalled motor burns it out completely within days.
  • Gate stops mid-cycle or reverses for no reason. The motor’s thermal overload is tripping because it’s working harder than it should. It might be the motor itself, or the arm binding from a hinge or wheel issue – we check both before recommending a motor swap.
  • Remote and keypad work, but the gate won’t budge at all. On 12V and 24V DC Linear motors, this often means the motor windings have failed outright. It’ll need replacement, not repair.
  • Burning smell or visible scorch marks near the operator. The motor has overheated badly. Cut power to the operator at the breaker and leave it off until we can look at it. A scorched motor is a fire hazard, not a repair project.

One Las Vegas-specific note: our summer heat accelerates capacitor failure. We replace more Linear capacitors in July and August than in the rest of the year combined. If your gate has been sluggish for a few weeks and the temps just hit triple digits, the motor is likely on borrowed time.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A Linear gate motor replacement in Las Vegas runs between $650 and $1,400 installed. The spread comes from three things: which Linear motor your system needs, whether it’s a motor-only swap or a full operator replacement, and whether your board and capacitor are still healthy enough to reuse. Here’s a clear breakdown of what we quote:

  • Motor part cost (OEM Linear): $300 – $700 depending on model
  • Motor part cost (tested aftermarket equivalent): $180 – $420 depending on model
  • Labor for motor swap: $250 – $390 including removal, wiring, testing, and adjustment
  • Capacitor replacement (if needed, AC units): $45 – $95
  • Board replacement (only if your existing board is damaged): $180 – $350

Every quote we give includes the part, the labor, the wiring connections, the limit and force adjustments, and a full cycle test before we leave. The written price is agreed before any work starts – no surprise line items at the end. And the motor is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, the return visit and replacement part are on us. That guarantee is in writing, and it applies to every Linear motor replacement we do.

DIY or Call Us?

We’ll be straight with you: a Linear motor replacement touches 120V and 220V wiring depending on your model, and the operator is under spring tension in some configurations. That’s not a weekend project. If you pop the cover to read the model label, take a photo, and listen for odd sounds – that’s safe and it helps us quote you accurately. Beyond that, leave the motor to someone who does this every day.

Where DIY goes wrong: you buy the wrong motor for your board generation, strip a mounting bolt, pinch a wire during reassembly, or set the limit switches wrong so the gate slams into its stop. Any of those turns a $250 labor job into a $700+ repair. Cole Rafferty has told more than one Las Vegas customer the same thing: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it.” Call (725) 529-9468 and you’ll get that answer in minutes, not after a weekend of frustration.
