Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Welding and fabrication work on Linear gate systems in Las Vegas typically runs $280 – $890 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked hinge mount, rebuilding a bent gate frame, or fabricating a custom bracket that’s no longer available from the factory. Most residential jobs are completed same-day when we have the steel and the rig on the truck, which we usually do. The way most owners find out is sudden: the gate starts dragging on the drive, a weld pops with a sound like a gunshot, or the whole frame sits crooked because a corner joint finally gave out after years of desert heat and wind load.

This page covers what actually fails on Linear gates, what it costs to fix it right in Las Vegas, and why welding is sometimes the better repair than buying a new gate. We’re an independent gate repair company, not a Linear dealer or affiliate, but we work on Linear (and LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls) systems every week.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear’s slide and swing gate operators are the most common systems on residential properties in Las Vegas, and the welding work usually involves the steel around them, not the motor itself. The Linear SL and SW series swing operators, the LRA slide operators, and older Linear GDO models all bolt into metal gate frames that take a beating here. The chain brackets, hinge plates, and post mounts are steel, and on most Linear installations from before 2015, those brackets were field-welded rather than bolted.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of owners: Linear changed the stud spacing on their swing operator mounting brackets around 2017. The older SW series used a 7-inch bolt spread; the newer SWR models use 6.25 inches. If you order a replacement bracket for a 2009 Linear SW gate, you can’t just grab a current production part and expect it to line up, not without drilling new holes in the post, which weakens it. That’s the main reason we fabricate brackets on-site rather than telling you to wait three weeks for an obsolete part that might still not fit. For aftermarket steel, we fabricate with 1/4-inch plate to match the factory gauge. It’s overkill, but in Las Vegas heat, thicker steel moves less.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate scrapes the ground on one end. A broken weld at a corner joint lets the far end sag. It will get worse every cycle until the frame twists enough to jam the opener.
  • You hear a popping or groaning sound each time the gate moves. That’s the steel flexing at a cracked weld. The sound is the crack opening and closing under load, and it’s a warning, not a nuisance.
  • The hinge post moves when the gate swings or slides. The post mount weld has likely cracked inside the concrete. We see this on older Linear installs in Las Vegas where the post was cored too shallow and wind load finally broke the bond.
  • The chain or drive arm sits at an odd angle. When a bracket bends or its weld fails, the Linear operator keeps pulling on a line that isn’t straight anymore. That angle is chewing through the chain and gears inside the motor.
  • The gate closes, then bounces back or reverses. A distorted frame trips the Linear’s obstruction sensor because the gate’s weight is no longer distributed the way the limit switches expect. The issue isn’t the motor, it’s the twisted steel underneath it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Las Vegas, and these are installed prices, not just parts:

  • Single hinge bracket repair: $280 – $420
  • Post mount rebuild or re-weld: $380 – $560
  • Full corner joint repair on a gate frame: $420 – $680
  • Custom bracket or mount fabrication: $450 – $890 depending on complexity and steel gauge

What drives the range is access. If we can reach the broken weld standing up, it’s at the low end. If we’re cutting concrete, laying on hot asphalt, or supporting a 400-pound gate while we work, that’s at the high end. Either way, you get a written price before any work starts. That price includes the steel, the welding consumables, grinding, prep, paint or primer where we’re working, and the labor. If the weld fails within a year, it’s covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the return visit is free. No surprises, no line items added at the end.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s one thing you can do safely, and that’s document what you’re seeing. Take a photo of where the crack or break is, note which Linear model you have (the label is on the operator housing), and text it to us. That helps us get the right steel and the right bracket on the truck before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is try to weld this yourself. Gate welding is structural work, and a bad weld on a moving gate is a several-hundred-pound liability swinging toward your car, your kids, or your neighbor’s wall. It’s also usually overhead or vertical-position welding, which is the hardest kind to do without proper gear and training. Our welder on the crew, and yes, Cole Rafferty still picks up the torch on tougher jobs, has been doing gate steel since his days at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and knows what holds in the Las Vegas sun. Call (725) 529-9468 and we’ll get you a real answer.
