Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

If you own a Viking gate in Las Vegas and the metal work has started to fail, you’re in the right place. We stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication parts, and most repairs run between $240 and $680 installed depending on how much steel needs to be cut, re-welded, and reinforced. We keep the common Viking hardware on our trucks, which means many of these jobs are done in a single visit.

Here’s how most Las Vegas homeowners discover the problem: a gate starts sagging toward the latch side, or you hear a metallic creak every time the opener pushes it through its arc. Sometimes a weld crack shows up as a thin dark line running through a hinge plate. Other times the post itself starts leaning. The hardware was never the weak link on Viking gates. The welds and the thin-wall tubing are what give out first, usually after years of southern Nevada sun baking the powder coat off and letting surface rust get a head start.

Which Viking Models This Applies To

Most Viking gates sold in Las Vegas fall into three families: the Viking Estate series, the Viking Titan line, and the older Viking Regal models that have been out of production for a while but still work hard on properties across Henderson, Summerlin, and North Las Vegas. The fabrication issue is basically the same across all of them: the factory welds at the hinge points and the mid-rail joints are where stress concentrates, and it’s where you’ll see failure first.

If you’re ordering a fabricated part or trying to match a hinge, grab the model tag before you call. On most Viking units it’s a small aluminum plate riveted to the inside face of the gate frame, usually near the top hinge or on the motor mount plate. What matters for fabrication is less the series name and more the tubing size. Viking consistently uses 2-inch square steel tubing with a wall thickness between .083 and .120 inch depending on the model year. Newer Estate and Titan gates lean toward the thicker wall. Older Regal gates often came with thinner tubing, and that’s exactly why we see Regal frames cracking more often in Las Vegas. On OEM versus aftermarket: Viking’s replacement hardware is well made, but for welding and fabrication work, the steel itself is commodity material. A 2-inch by 2-inch piece of .120-wall A500 structural tubing is the same whether it has a Viking part number or not. What matters is the weld procedure and the reinforcement design, which is where we spend our time. One gotcha: if your gate is powder coated in a custom color, welding burns the finish off around the repair zone. We can match most standard Viking colors closely but not perfectly after a heat repair. We’ll tell you that before we strike an arc, not after.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags at the latch corner. The top hinge weld has begun separating from the post plate. The gate is still hanging, but the load path has shifted to the bottom hinge and it’s only a matter of time before that one cracks too.
  • A visible crack runs through a hinge plate or a rail joint. This is the classic Vegas failure. Dry heat, wind load, and thousands of open cycles work the weld until it fatigues. Once you can see a dark crack line, the structural steel is already compromised.
  • You hear a grinding or popping sound as the gate moves. That’s not the motor. It’s the frame flexing around a broken or partially broken weld, and the popping is the two broken surfaces rubbing across each other under load.
  • The gate post is leaning even slightly. Viking posts are set in concrete, but a weld failure at the post-to-hinge connection will put lateral pressure on the post itself. Over time the post starts drifting and the problem compounds fast.
  • Surface rust is flaking at the weld seams. Vegas doesn’t get rain like Seattle, but it does get condensation in winter and dust that holds moisture against bare steel. Once the powder coat fails at a weld line, the rust works into the weld itself and speeds up fatigue by years.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Viking gate in Las Vegas, expect to pay:

  • Hinge weld repair (single hinge): $240 to $380
  • Full re-weld of both hinges plus reinforcement plates: $380 to $520
  • Mid-rail crack repair with steel sleeve reinforcement: $280 to $450 per crack
  • Post reinforcement or replacement with new base plate welded: $450 to $680
  • Full gate frame rebuild (multiple cracks, severe sag): $600 to $1,100

Every job starts with a written price before we pick up a welder. Not a range, not a “we’ll see when we get in there.” We look at the gate, measure the tubing, check the cracks, and hand you a fixed number. That price includes cutting out the failed material, prepping the surfaces, welding with proper penetration, grinding the beads back smooth, and coating the repair zone so it doesn’t rust the minute we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a weld fails inside a year, we come back and fix it free.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s an honest split here. You can safely do the inspection part yourself: look for visible crack lines, check the gate for sag with the opener disengaged, and run your hand along the welds (with the gate stationary and the motor powered down) to feel for sharp edges or separation. What you should not do is fire up a flux-core welder from the hardware store and have at it. Gate frames are under constant dynamic load, and a bad weld on a 300-pound gate that opens and closes a dozen times a day is a serious safety hazard. We’ve seen DIY repairs where the weld looked fine on the outside and had zero penetration underneath. The gate held for three weeks and then the hinge tore free while someone was walking through it. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it. Call (725) 529-9468 and we’ll send you the name and photo of the technician coming to take a look, along with a written price before any work starts.
