Elite Gate Motor Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

An Elite gate motor replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $650 to $1,400 installed, depending on the specific Elite model and whether we’re swapping just the motor or the full operator assembly. We keep the most common Elite motors on our trucks and can usually complete a replacement same-day or next-day, assuming the arm and bracket hardware is still sound. Most owners discover the motor is dead before they see it: the gate stops mid-swing, the opener hums but won’t move the leaf, or the LED on the control board shows a fault code that points straight at the motor itself. If you’ve been nudging the gate by hand or resetting the breaker every week, the motor has been telling you for a while.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite has used different motor assemblies across its lineup over the years, and the model number matters more than the brand name on the cover. The SL-2000 and SL-3000 slide gate operators share one motor family, while the Elite Swing series with articulating arms uses a different motor with a higher torque spec for the arm geometry. Open the operator cover and look for the label on the motor itself or the control board nearby. The model prefix you want is printed there: SL, MSL, or a swing-series designation like SW. We match by that prefix and the voltage stamped on the motor housing, because some Elite units in Las Vegas are wired for 115V while older installations run 230V. We stock genuine Elite OEM motors and quality aftermarket equivalents. For older models where Elite has discontinued the exact motor, the aftermarket option is often the only path that doesn’t involve replacing the entire operator, and we’ll tell you which direction makes sense for your setup. One compatibility gotcha we see regularly: an Elite motor from a swing operator will not bolt into a slide operator even if the bolt pattern looks close, and the gearhead ratio is different. It will strip gears or overheat within months. We identify the correct part before we order or install anything.

Signs Your Elite Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

  • Gate hums but doesn’t move. The capacitor or the motor windings are failing. The motor is getting power but can’t generate enough torque to turn the drive assembly. This is the most common failure mode in Las Vegas heat, where motor windings degrade faster.
  • Gate moves slower than it used to, then stops. Worn motor brushes or a failing gearhead. Elite motors use a planetary gear reduction, and when the gearhead starts binding, the motor draws more current and trips the thermal overload.
  • You reset the breaker, it runs for a day, then stops again. The motor is pulling more amps than it should, which points to internal wear or a gearbox that’s about to lock up. The breaker is doing its job.
  • Burnt electrical smell near the operator. That smell is insulation breaking down on the windings. It does not fix itself, and running it longer risks damage to the control board, which is a more expensive repair than the motor.
  • Gate opens fine but won’t close, or vice versa. This can be limits or a control board issue, but on Elite units we also see motor-related torque sensor faults. If the motor’s torque output is inconsistent, the controller errors out unpredictably.

Any one of these is a reason to call us at (725) 529-9468. We’ll ask you what the gate is doing, which model you have, and what the LED on the board is showing. That conversation gets us to the right diagnosis faster than most people expect.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge in Las Vegas for Elite gate motor replacement:

  • Motor only, OEM or aftermarket: $350 to $700 for the part, depending on Elite series and voltage
  • Labor and installation: $300 to $550, which includes removal, mounting alignment, torque and limit calibration, and full cycle testing
  • Capacitor replacement (if the motor is still healthy): $40 to $90
  • Full operator replacement (motor, board, arm, housing): $1,200 to $2,400 for complete Elite units

The price range comes down to three things: which Elite model you have, whether the aftermarket motor is a viable match, and whether the existing mounting hardware is in reusable condition. We quote the job in writing before any work starts. You’ll know the part cost, the labor, and the total, signed off before we unbolt anything. Every motor replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, the return visit is free. That includes the second visit labor, not just the part.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things without opening the motor housing: confirm the breaker is on, check for visible damage to the arm or chain, and note what the LED fault light is doing. Beyond that, an Elite gate motor is not a beginner repair. The motor connects to capacitors that hold a charge even after the power is off, and the drive assembly can be under tension from the gate’s position. Taking the motor out without locking the gate leaf properly means a steel gate can swing or slide unexpectedly, and in Las Vegas wind, that gets dangerous fast. If the gate is a large iron slide, the weight alone is enough to cause serious injury if the release isn’t set correctly. We recommend a trained technician for any motor replacement. If you’re on the fence about what to check yourself, call (725) 529-9468 and tell us what the gate is doing wrong. Cole Rafferty’s rule applies: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it.”
