Linear Access Control Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Linear access control installation in Las Vegas typically costs $425 to $1,100 installed, depending on which Linear component failed and how much of the surrounding wiring needs to be replaced. We stock Linear-compatible controllers, keypads, card readers, and power supplies on our trucks, so most jobs are done same day in the Las Vegas valley. You usually discover the problem the hard way: the keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move, the card reader stops reading, or the whole system goes dark after a monsoon-season power surge. That’s the moment to call someone who knows Linear equipment specifically, not a general electrician who’ll be reading the manual for the first time on your driveway.

Warden Gate Repair Las Vegas is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Linear, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is factory-trained on Linear access control hardware, with the parts on hand to get your gate working again without a two-week wait.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear’s access control line breaks into a few families, and you need to know which one you have before anyone orders parts. The AP-5 and AE-500 keypads are the older workhorses we still see all over Las Vegas, especially in gated communities built in the 2000s. The newer RE-1 and RE-2 receivers, plus the IEI 212i keypads Linear rebranded under the Nortek umbrella, cover most residential installs from the last decade. The AK-11 and AK-21 are the common keypad-and-reader combos we pull out of failing gates in Summerlin and Henderson regularly.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into weekly: an older Linear AP-5 keypad wired into a system with a new LiftMaster operator won’t always communicate cleanly without a relay adapter. The part number and voltage rating are stamped on the inside of the keypad housing, but you have to open it to see them. If you’re not comfortable doing that, leave it closed and let us identify it.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Linear specifically: we stock genuine Linear OEM boards and keypads because the aftermarket clones have a failure rate we won’t put our name on. The 365-Day Done Right Promise means if we install a part and it fails, you get a free return visit. We’d rather install the real thing once than a clone twice.

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing

Here’s what we hear on the phone, and what it usually means:

  • The keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The relay on the controller board has burned out. This is the single most common failure we see on Linear systems that are five years old or older, especially after summer heat cycled the board for a few seasons.
  • The code works sometimes but not when it’s hot. The keypad membrane or the control board has a thermal intermittent. In Las Vegas, direct sun on a west-facing keypad can push the internal temperature past what the components are rated for.
  • Multiple keypads or readers stop working at once. The power supply or transformer feeding the access control system has died. It’s rarely all the keypads failing at once; it’s the single power source they share.
  • The gate cycles fine but the access log shows errors, or the system reboots randomly. This points to a failing controller board or a grounding issue on the gate motor circuit. Dust and monsoon moisture inside the enclosure accelerate it.
  • Cards and fobs read inconsistently, or only when held at a precise angle. The reader antenna or the wiring between the reader and controller has degraded. Wiegand wiring is finicky; a nicked wire from vibration near the gate track is often the culprit.

If any of these match what you’re seeing, write down the exact behavior before you call. As Cole Rafferty puts it: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it.”

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Linear access control installation in Las Vegas, expect $425 to $1,100 installed. A single keypad or card reader replacement with a new OEM part lands at the lower end of that range. A full controller swap with new power supply, surge protection, and rewiring to the gate operator is where the higher end comes in. Here’s how that breaks down:

  • Keypad or card reader replacement (single device, OEM Linear part): $425 to $650 installed
  • Controller board replacement (RE-1, RE-2, or equivalent): $550 to $800 installed
  • Full access control system replacement (controller, keypad, power supply, surge protection, wiring cleanup): $850 to $1,100 installed

Every quote is written and agreed before we start. No surprise line items at the end. That written price includes the part, the labor to install and test it, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails within a year, the return visit is free. No fine print, no prorating.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can check safely before anyone comes out. Confirm the gate has power at the operator. Check the breaker for the gate circuit. Look for an obvious tripped GFCI outlet near the gate. If those check out and the keypad is still dark, stop there. The internals of an access control enclosure carry low voltage in most residential systems, but the gate operator itself runs on line voltage, and the wrong probe in the wrong place puts you on the ground. We’ve seen wires chewed by pack rats inside enclosures, terminals melted by surge events, and one memorable setup near North Las Vegas where someone had spliced a car battery into the system to “help it out.” That gate got a full rewire.

If the problem is a burned relay, a failed power supply, or a reader that needs re-terminating, call us at (725) 529-9468. We’ll arrive with the right Linear part on the truck, and you’ll know the price before we touch anything.
